I have owned just about every Pflueger spinning reel out there at one point in time. I currently own multiple models of the Pflueger President spinning reel, so I figured a product review was justified. There are so many options of good spinning reels available today and the Pflueger brand, in my opinion, more than holds it’s own.
Now don’t get me wrong, if money were no object, I have a few Shimano’s in mind that would be at the top of my list. But for the money, it’s just hard to be the Pflueger President.
Let’s take a look at why I am such a big fan of the Pflueger President, and here is my review.
It should be noted that there are 5 unique models of the President spinning reel. Each one is a little bit different and I am going to do everything I can to help you distinguish the difference between each model. But for now, I’m going to stick with the 2 models I use the most…the 30x and 25x.
My number 1 recommendation, if I had to choose one model, would be the Model 30x. So for the sake of this review, let’s take an in-depth look at the Model 30x President and then compare it to some of the other models so we can get a full understanding of each.
Pflueger President 30x Spinning Reel
Keep in mind, the fishing reel market is loaded with great, expensive reels. There are SO MANY good spinning reels out there, how does a person choose? My personal experience lies here with the Pflueger President and these things are sweet! You really can’t beat the price tag on these fishing reels considering how smooth and durable they are.
I have had multiple models for the last 3 years and have had only a few issues. A couple of the reels I tossed, but at that price…I didn’t lose sleep over it.
The carbon body and aluminum handle make them lightweight yet durable, and the 10 bearing system makes them silky smooth. I like the 30x model as my “editor’s choice” pick because its small enough to fish on a lighter rod when targeting panfish, but large enough to hold a decent amount of stronger line. If you’re fishing walleyes, bass, and some of the other medium-sized predator fish, this reel is perfect. In my opinion, this is one of, if not the best, all around spinning reel when you consider product durability, quality, brand value, and price.

Pflueger President 25x Fishing Reel
For those looking for a bit more versatility and action out of a spinning reel, than give the Pflueger Model 25x President a try. I have this paired on a few of my fishing rods for bottom bouncer fishing. I don’t normally need a ton of fishing line, and I love feeling a strong tug on the end of my line. I tend to lean more towards lighter fishing gear, and this fits me well.
Another great application for this reel is pitching jigs on the river. I don’t normally cast a country mile when doing this, it’s more of a 10-yard cast. And when paired with a good, light-action rod, this combo is tough to beat.
I also use these for all my panfish fishing. Large reels are simply overkill, this fits the applications I use (such as slip bobbers) well.
