Take a moment, and think about how many minnow buckets do you think you’ve gone through in your life? How many cheap, foam or plastic buckets have you used for ice or open water fishing?
I’ve found the best minnow bucket you will find right now, especially for the price it’s at right now.
The best part about a Frabill minnow bucket is that they’ve been making them forever and you’d like to assume they’re getting better (most of the time). So what do you like about this minnow bucket???
Built-in Aerator – it has a built-in aerator for keeping minnows alive. Now I don’t know about you, but I fish in some HOT conditions where this is necessary. I don’t have time to run back to the livewell to get a minnow every time I get a bite or have a fish. I want a minnow bucket next to me, and I want the bait fresh. Not a new concept, but this works well for me.
Insulated – I like the fact that it’s insulated. Again, this is great when it’s HOT outside as well as when it’s FREEZING cold. Either way, insulated minnow buckets are the way to go nowadays.
The Right Size – and this may be a bad thing too, but I like the fact that it’s smaller. It has a 1.3 gallon capacity, making it perfect for 1-2 scoops of minnows.
Batteries Last Long – lastly, and I don’t know how, but it runs for quite a while on just 2 AA batteries.
Now let’s talk about the “bad” things about this aerated minnow bucket. Most of your problems will come from the hose under the lid. It’s curly and doesn’t want to always stay under the water. While this is annoying, there’s an easy fix. Simply put a washer over the hose and I used a rubber band (tripled up) to keep it from sliding off. Easy fix.
And again can I stress the price??? To me, shipped to your door, it’s not bad. And imagine the use you will get out of it!
If you plan on keeping your bait longer than a couple of days, you may want to look into the bigger brother of the Frabill minnow bucket. While I haven’t used it personally, I have a few buddies who like them.
